West Pharmaceutical India Packaging Private Ltd, a subsidiary of West Pharmaceutical Services Inc, US, kicked off construction of its compression moulding facility in Sri City, near Chennai.
The plant will become part of the company’s global supply chain for pharmaceutical packaging components.
It will help West Pharmaceutical India Packaging establish its presence near its customers in India, said a release.
“This investment is to partner with customers in India and the Asia Pacific region to help them provide medicines to patients more efficiently, reliably and safely,” said Warwick Bedwell, President, Pharmaceutical Packaging Systems, Asia Pacific Region.
The facility is expected to employ over 250 employees, in phases. In the first phase, a metal seal assembly and compression moulding facility will come up across 1.50 lakh square feet.
Commercial production of metal components is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2014.
West Pharmaceutical is a $1.2-billion company spread over 50 locations across North America, South America, Europe, Mexico, Japan, Asia and the Pacific and Australia and, now, India.
