Apple’s contract manufacturer Wistron has resumed operations at its Narasapura facility at Kolar.
The factory had been shut since December 12 due to wage-related issues.
On Wednesday, Jagadish Shettar, Karnataka Minister for Large and Medium Industries along with senior department officials visited Wistron at Narasapura Industrial Area and interacted with the employees and company’s management.
Addressing the employees, the minister said these kinds of incidents should not occur.
Advising employees, he said: “If any problem arises in the future, bring the matter to the notice of the district administration and authorities concerned.”
Shettar aded: “The violence due to wage-related issues has left many employees staring at a bleak future. We don’t want a repeat of such incidents.”
The minister also inquired about the present status of the workers. The workers said thousands of them have been suffering because of the mindless violence of a few.
Minister’s word of caution
The minister said, “When I visited Kolar district 10 years ago, people were looking to work in Bengaluru. Now industry is coming to their district and employment opportunities are increasing locally. Such incidents should not affect these positive developments.”
Gaurav Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Industries and Commerce, said that officers should visit the industrial units frequently and listen to the grievances of the workers.
