Samsung India bets on QLED TVs and soon to be launched Frame TV to increase its market share in premium television market in the country.

The company will launch Frame TV, which acts as a TV in on-mode and a picture frame in off-mode, in the second half of 2017.

Samsung’s QLED TVs, made using Quantum dot technology, were launched in three series Q9, Q8 and Q7 each in 55 inches, 65 inches, 75 inches and 88 inches this month.

They are priced between ₹3.14 lakh and ₹24.99 lakh. It offers 100 per cent colour volume, HDR 2000 functionality and comes with 1.8 mm optical fibre cable with a Samsung connection box to avoid clutter.

Speaking to media persons at the Samsung India factory in Chennai, Rajeev Bhutani, Vice-President, Consumer Electronics Business, said the response was tremendous for QLED TVs and the sale was 15 times more than that of other TVs.

It will surpass even the festival season sale this year, he added. The company has a 48 per cent share in premium segment, he said without sharing numbers on market size.

According to Bhutani, this trend is indicative of shift in consumer preference, which lies in over 40 inches segment. In the last two years, 32 inch TVs did not witness as much growth compared to its over 40 inch counterpart.

To cater to this shift, the company came up with QLED TVs.

Consumer electronics segment is set to grow due to the increasing penetration across India. “Around 35 per cent of our business comes from rural and semi-rural market,” Bhutani said.

This is in part due to electrification of villages because of which rural and semi-rural markets are growing rapidly resulting in many first-time buyers.
