Within three months of launching smart TVs in India, Europe’s leading consumer appliance brand Thomson introduced its non-smart range of TVs in three screen sizes.
While the smart TVs are only being sold online on Flipkart in flash sales every Thursday from noon, the non-smart TV line-up of 24-, 32- and 50-inch series, priced from ₹8,990 to ₹27,999 will be available in over 4,000 outlets pan-India and on Flipkart exclusively.
“The demand for TVs is led by smart TVs in the country today. Smart TVs constitute 70 per cent of online TV sales, however, it constitutes under 30 per cent of offline TV sales. While we started off by launching three Thomson smart TVs – 32-, 40-, 43-inch series starting from ₹13,500 up to ₹27,990, our vision is to reach every Indian household and provide them with a par excellence viewing experience and hence the launch of our non-smart TV range,” Avneet Singh Marwah, CEO of Super Plastronics Pvt Ltd (SPPL), exclusive brand licensee of Thomson India, told BusinessLine .
Noida-headquartered SPPL, which also retails home-grown TV brands SVL, Suntek, Crown and Suzikon from a network of multi-brand stores and 350 service centres, is also the brand licensee for Kodak HD LED TVs in India, which is sold exclusively on online platforms. “We already have 3 per cent market share of the TV segment and with this launch we aim to capture 6-7 per cent market share in 2019-20. After the big Diwali sale this year, apart from Samsung, Sony, LG, we will be the biggest TV manufacturer in the country, beating players like Micromax and Intex,” he said.
Marwah said he is investing ₹150 crore to augment manufacturing capacity in its manufacturing plant in Noida by 40 per cent. SPPL’s current manufacturing capacity is 35,000 TVs.
SPPL also introduced a new User Interface for its 32- and 40-inch Thomson Smart TV range called “My Wall.” The UI, which comesinstalled in the TV, displays top videos across categories such as films, music, travel, lifestyle, sports that are trending worldwide and in India in major Indian languages on the homescreen. The UI also allows users to order from apps such as BigBasket and Zomato while watching one’s favourite videos or movies.
