India Yamaha Motor today launched the YZF-R15 version 2.0 — a 150cc liquid cooled 4-stroke fuel injected super sport bike. Priced at Rs 1,07,000, the bike gives a mileage of 45 kmpl and is available in three colours.
“The Indian bike market in the first half of the year was 6.3 million units, up 18 per cent from last year and we expect this demand to reach 13 million by year end. We sold 150,000 units in the first half, up 42 per cent from last year. We hope to carry this momentum into the next year,” Mr Hiroyuki Suzuki, CEO and Managing Director, India Yamaha Motor, told reporters here.
In the 1.2 lakh units, deluxe bike segment, the company has a market share of 15 per cent. The company has 287dealerships and aims to take it to 400 by the year-end.
On sales target, Mr Roy Kurian, National Business Head, said: “We aim to sell 5.3 lakh bikes by this fiscal. For YZF-R15, our target is 3,000 bikes per month.”
The new scooter which the company plans to launch next year, will be designed in Japan but made in India, Mr Kurian added.
