In an effort to improve organisational efficiency, Japanese two-wheeler maker Yamaha Motor Company on Friday said it has restructured its India business by unifying all three of its operations under one umbrella, called Yamaha Motor India.
The three units under it are: India Yamaha Motor, Yamaha Motor India Sales and Yamaha Motor Research and Development India.
The new entity will serve as the regional headquarters and corporate control body of Yamaha’s India business operations, effective August 15, the company said in a statement.
“Yamaha Motor India will be responsible for corporate planning and strategy, business planning and business expansion, quality control, and regional control of the India business,” said the statement.
Restarting old vehicle Yamaha Motor India, in a sense, is being revived. It had been replaced by India Yamaha Motor in 2008, when the company announced the setting up of a joint venture with Mitsui Corp to produce motorcycles in India.
India Yamaha Motor will continue to have joint investment from YMC and Mitsui Corp, said the statement.
It will be the manufacturing company, while the other two units will serve as a 100 per cent subsidiary of the Japanese parent and continue to independently support India Yamaha Motor in sales and marketing, and research and development, respectively, the statement said.
Appointments Hiroyuki Suzuki, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of India Yamaha Motor, has been appointed as the Managing Director of Yamaha Motor India.
He will also function as the Chairman of other Group companies in India.
Takashi Terabayashi, currently Deputy MD of India Yamaha Motor, will be its new Managing Director.
