Zee Media has yet again filed a criminal complaint against Foundation for Independent Journalism, the parent company of online news portal The Wire .
The complaint, which names The Wire Founder and Editor Siddharth Varadarajan and four others, was filed before Metropolitan Magistrate Sumeet Anand. The complaint claims that two articles published by the online news portal on January 24 “caused serious harm to the reputation of the complainant by imputing behaviour incompatible with proper conduct and suggestions of involvement in improper activity”.
In The Wire articles, the news portal referred to alleged wrongdoing on Zee Media’s part in relation to black money and demonetisation deposits, an issue that Zee is terming false and defamatory. The court has put the matter up for consideration on March 28.
The complaint has been filed under sections 499 and 500 (defamation) of the IPC .
