Online restaurant and food discovery site Zomato has acquired Lunchtime.cz and Obedovat.sk, the Czech Republic’s and Slovakia's restaurant guides, respectively, for a combined amount of $3.25 million.
Deepinder Goyal, Founder and CEO of Zomato, in a statement said: "Together, Zomato, Lunchtime and Obedovat will be able to build the largest resource of restaurant information in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. We look forward to combining the best of both our business models to build an integrated product, which the users as well as restaurant businesses, will love once it is rolled out over the next few months. We are looking to infuse a further $2.5 million into our operations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia over the next couple of years.”
The Lunchtime and Obedovat teams will be working closely with the Zomato team following this acquisition.
The combined product will be able to enhance the user experience with fresh, more in-depth restaurant information along with lunch menus. It would also drive greater value to local restaurant businesses in the Czech Republic, said Igor Treslin, Founder and CEO of Lunchtime.
Zomato has been aggressively expanding its global presence over the past two quarters, while also strengthening its presence in existing markets. It had acquired MenuMania, the leading restaurant discovery service in New Zealand, in July 2014. The latest acquisitions are a strategic move to establish Zomato’s presence in Central and Eastern Europe.
Zomato, one of the world's largest restaurant discovery services, is now present in 15 countries.
