All-India cases and deaths have been decreasing consistently and have declined below May 2020 levels, implying that we may be nearing the end of the pandemic. The fresh Covid-19 cases are less serious and the percentage of fatality to cases has come down sharply.

The daily deaths in India are at a two year low with only 29 deaths registered on May 25.

The situation is however not so sanguine in other countries. Fatality rate, which is the percentage of deaths in cases, is quite high in countries such as Russia, Spain and UK, implying that the pandemic is still virulent in some regions.

Fatality rate in India has been declining over the years as the coverage of vaccination increased. India’s fatality rate is also lower than most other countries with high number of daily cases in recent times.

Among states and UTs, Delhi has reported the most cases and deaths. Numbers in other States are down quite sharply, providing comfort.
