At present educators often do an exemplary job of preparing their students for jobs in industry or for further education. However, there are still many areas where these students do not possess the necessary skills or knowledge based on the expectations of employers or academia.
Pointing of this gap, Abhirama Krishna, Director, South State Business School said “These gaps between the abilities of graduating students and those they are expected to have can prevent them from succeeding in their careers”.
Delivering the BL Club Lecture on “What industry expects from an MBA graduate” at the CMR College of Engineering & Technology, he said at this point it is very important for students to develop an understanding on how to prepare oneself to grab opportunities .
He said the first need to be addressed by educators is inculcating employable skills. He also highlighted that most employers seek self-confidence in their prospective employees, in the lecture series, sponsored by the State Bank of Hyderabad.
Addressing students of the Department of Masters in Business Administration, he stressed the need for students to have positive thinking, focus. Since India is a developing country and emerging economy it promises lots of opportunities ahead for students tomake a successful career.
He emphasised that students should have a practical exposure, which they can acquire through internships and academic projects. Ability to innovate, take risks, creativity and good communication skills are important.
