Students should focus on identifying qualities that are needed for success, plan to acquire and then develop them said V. Viswanadham, retired professor of Osmania University.

This should be the main pursuit during student life, he said while delivering the BL Club Guest Lecture at Nalla Malla Reddy Engineering College, Ghatkesar. The lecture series is sponsored by the State Bank of Hyderabad.

Speaking on ‘Becoming a better student’, Viswanadham, who is on the guest faculty of the Vivekananda Institute of Human Excellence, here explained the importance of doing an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses.

It will give a good opportunity to consolidate strengths and reducing weaknesses. He also emphasised the importance of planning and goal setting, without which continuous development cannot take place.

Viswanadham dwelt on the significance of motivation and its role in leading a student to success in his career and life. He listed the required skills and qualities needed for success to management students of the college.

A committed programme of self-improvement, especially in respect of skills, should be listed as a very important step. Every student must plan to work on these skills and qualities.

He suggested simple things such as devoting at least one percent of the day’s time (15 minutes every day for reading, inspiring thoughts and review at the end of the day as a minimum requirement for achieving a better future). Students should come out of their comfort zone and move into the challenge zone, he added.
