Many candidates, who registered to attend a job fair at Moodbidri, have shown interest in IT-related jobs.

The Moodbidri-based Alva's Education Foundation will conduct the job fair titled ‘Alva's Pragati-2012' at Moodbidri in Dakshina Kananda district on May 12 and 13.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Dr M. Mohan Alva, Chairman of the foundation, said over 9,000 students across southern India had registered online for the job fair. Of them, nearly 6,000 aspirants had registered for jobs in IT and IT-enabled services.

Mr Vivek Alva, Trustee of the foundation, said though the catchment area for the job fair is Dakshina Kannada and its adjoining districts, 428 registrations have been received from Tamil Nadu.

There were some registrations from northern and central India also. He said 323 students from Mysore had registered for the fair.

Mr Vivek Alva said 135 companies from the manufacturing, IT, IT-enabled services, retail and hospitality sectors have registered for the job fair. He hopes that it crosses 150 by May 12.

The candidates' database of Alva's Pragati provides attributes such as qualifications, aspirations, skill set and location preference.

Giving details of registrations from Tamil Nadu, Mr Vivek Alva said that the database will help the companies from that State to select candidates from that region.

He said the manufacturing and IT sectors have been the thrust areas for the placement drive. This was evident from the number of aspirants for these sectors.

He said some IT (information technology) companies such as Wipro and Vindya Infotech have offered jobs for physically-challenged persons also. There will not be any charge for attending the job fair, he added.
