A firm hold on fundamentals of education is essential for engineering and management students for their future growth in any industry, according to Mr E.S. Chakravarthy, Head (Talent Acquisition), Tata Consultancy Services, Bangalore.

Inaugurating a human resources symposium on ‘Managing human resource during economic slowdown', organised by the Department of Business Administration of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management in Mangalore on Friday, he said that if a student is strong in his/her fundamentals of education, the human resource department will set the tone for the future of that person in his/her company.

“It trains them, mentors them and makes them ready for the industry. This helps them bridge the gap between academia and industry.”

He said the students should have the culture of learning, facing the challenges and culture of teaming together, as these play a major role in the success of an organisation. Culture creates identity for the organisation, bringing a lot of strength to it.

He advised the students that people in human resources sector should understand the changes of the stakeholder communities of the organisations, and act accordingly.

Language skills of a person play an important role for the organisations working in different geographies serving diversified customers.

Mr Manjunatha Bhandary, Chairman of Bhandary Foundation (which runs the Sahyadri College), highlighted the role played by the major corporate conglomerates such as Tatas and Birlas in the area of human resource management.
