The CA Institute's disciplinary committee has found Mr V.S. Prabhakar Gupta, who was head of internal audit with erstwhile Satyam Computers Services, to be guilty of professional misconduct.
Pricewaterhouse auditor, Mr S. Gopalakrishnan, who had signed the balance sheets of scam-tainted Satyam Computers, was also found guilty of professional misconduct.
The first stage of proceedings against these two members is over and the disciplinary committee will soon meet to determine the penalty, the CA Institute's new President, Mr Jaydeep Narendra Shah, said here on Monday.
As part of its probe against deficient audits in Satyam Computers Services, the CA Institute had initiated disciplinary proceedings against six different chartered accountants. The proceedings have been completed and punishment awarded in four cases, said Mr Shah.
For the other two — Mr Gopalakrishnan and Mr Gupta — the punishment would soon be determined and awarded, he said.
Mr Gopalakrishnan, as statutory auditor, signed the financial statements of Satyam Computers from 2000-01 to 2006-07.
Last week, the Institute had debarred Satyam's ex-CFO, Mr Vadlamani Srinivas, after its disciplinary committee found him guilty of professional misconduct. The action involved removal of his name from the CA Institute's members' list and levy of Rs 5 lakh penalty — the maximum permissible under law.
