The Lok Sabha on Tuesday adopted a motion for extending the term of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on 2G spectrum scam up to the last date of Budget session next year.

Mr P.C.Chacko, who heads the JPC, moved the motion in the Lower House for extension of the term of the committee.

The JPC was required to submit its report by the last date of the ongoing monsoon session, which is to end on September 8.

But the committee had, in its meeting in the last week of August, decided to request the Lok Sabha Speaker, Ms Meira Kumar, to extend its term upto the last date of the Budget session next year.

The JPC, consisting of 20 members from Lok Sabha and 10 from Rajya Sabha, was constituted on March 4 to look into the entire gamut of policy prescriptions in the telecom sector from 1998 to 2009.

Meanwhile, the JPC will meet here on Wednesday to take forward its ongoing work of hearing out the representatives of various Government Departments. The Income-Tax Department is slated to make a presentation to the JPC on Wednesday.
