At least 21 people were injured and a number of houses damaged when a 5.8—magnitude earthquake hit northwest China, local authorities said on Friday.
The epicentre of the quake, which rocked Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region yesterday, was at the border area between the region’s Atux City in the Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture and Jiashi County in Kashghar, state news agency Xinhua reported.
Three of the injured were in a critical condition. The quake also toppled 147 houses and severely damaged 171 others, a spokesman with the Kashgar Prefecture government said.
