It is celebration time for bank job-aspirants. About 57,000 candidates who had appeared in the recruitment examination for posts of probationary officers and clerks in public sector banks last year have been declared selected.

Over 12 lakh candidates had competed for these posts. A probationary officer earns a salary of Rs 60,000 per month depending on the location of posting while monthly salary for clerk is around Rs 25,000.

As per the provisional allotment list of the third round of exam (PO-III) released by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) here on Monday, 21,680 candidates including 10,846 in the unreserved/open category have been made allotments to different public sector banks.

Similarly, allotments were also made for 35,610 clerical positions.

The allotted candidates would be inducted by the individual banks which were part of the common recruitment. As of now, except State Bank of India group, all public sector banks are recruiting staff through the common recruitment exam being conducted by IBPS.

In addition to the main allotments, a reserve list for approximately 10 per cent of the vacancies being filled as also been released. The candidates in this list would be considered against any vacancies that might be notified by the banks up to March 31, 2015. However, allotment has not been guaranteed for these candidates.

Meanwhile, the candidates are facing difficulties in accessing the IBPS portal to know their result possibly due to heavy online traffic or technical glitch on the website.

According to C S Vepa, Director, National School of Banking, a training institute for bank recruitment exams, the number of vacancies had come down compared to last year but the competition was increasing.

For example, while 28,000 secured jobs in previous probationary officer recruitment under PO-II, this year the number in the first list was lower at 21,680.

``But on the whole, banks have kept up promise as 56,000 jobs is a big number in the current context,’’ he added.
