Even though new inductees into Air India Engineering Services Ltd will join on a contractual basis, the existing Air India engineers will be transferred to the new subsidiary on deputation and continue to avail themselves of the benefits they currently receive as being permanent employees.
“Air India employees will move to the new subsidiary on deputation and they will continue to get the benefits. The new inductees will join on different rules and regulations,” Mr P.G. Dhobley, General Secretary, Air India Engineers Association told Business Line .
“As Air India Engineers Association, we fully support the plan of MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) facility but we want it to be world class so it has a competitive edge over the other MRO facilities existing in the region. We are committed to the growth and expansion of Air India and all the unions strongly supported the Government for the turnaround plan for Air India,” he added.
Air India plans to start different subsidiaries for its engineering and ground handling business which will see 10-12,000 employees being transferred to these subsidiaries.
Unions meet CMD
Mr Dhobley added that the Air India unions have had a meeting with the Air India Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Arvind Jadhav, last week.
“The details of the turnaround plan were discussed and the airline unions are fully supporting the turnaround plan. We are ready for the next few months of financial hardship for the airline but the situation is relatively peaceful now with the unions and the airline,” he said.
