If the Government brings the Women’s Reservation Bill in Lok Sabha, the Bharatiya Janata Party will support it and get it passed, BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, said on Tuesday.

Releasing a report on ‘Challenges for Women in Modern India in Workplace and Society’, brought out by The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India, Swaraj said safety, education and economic independence of women would only work if they were politically empowered.

“Political empowerment is real empowerment, as it provides authority,” Swaraj said, urging industry to also back efforts to micro-finance women engaged in home-based work, such as tailoring, ironing etc.

The chamber report sought more support from the Government and industry for women to become entrepreneurs. It also urged corporates to enforce strict rules against harassment and gender prejudices in the workplace.
