Competition authorities from BRICS nations will converge in New Delhi this week to discuss issues and challenges in competition law enforcement.
The 3rd BRICS International Competition Conference 2013, a key biennial event of competition law and policy, is being hosted by the Competition Commission of India from November 20-22.
Corporate Affairs Minister Sachin Pilot expressed hope that the three-day event would showcase India as an attractive investment destination. The BRICS Competition authorities shall sign the Delhi Accord that would show their unanimity in development and cooperation.
Appreciating CCI’s role, Pilot advised it to become a facilitator in setting a forward-looking economic agenda and give confidence to people that there would be a level-playing field in the sphere of economic activity.
In reply to a query on the draft National Competition Policy, Pilot said consultations with stakeholders were being held and the policy was almost ready for adoption. However, he did not spell out the time frame for the same.
CCI Chairman Ashok Chawla said the event would also act as a knowledge sharing platform between BRICS countries and other global competition regulators. About 100 foreign delegates from various competition authorities including the US, the EU and Australia and 180 Indian delegates expected to participate in the event.
