It's that time of the year again when blocks after blocks go without power. As part of its initiative to observe Earth Hour 2012 on March 31 this year, transmission company BSES is spreading the message of conserving power among its 28 lakh consumers in Delhi.
Using various means, including SMSes and its bi-monthly newsletter, Synergy, it is going along with initiatives being taken in 5,500 global metropolises, a company release said here on Wednesday.
In six India cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore – BSES will take initiatives to raise consumer awareness about conserving electricity.
In 2011 and 2010, Delhiites helped save around 300 MW energy — equivalent to 32,50,000 tonnes of coal being burnt — by voluntarily switching off electrical appliances and lights during Earth Hour, the release added.
BSES, along with Infosys, Canon, HSBC and the ITC-Welcome Group, is an official supporter of the initiative this year.
