Age is no bar for superstar Amitabh Bachchan, be it movies or Twitterdom. At 71, Big B, is not only holding a strong position in the Indian film industry, but also enjoys the highest number of followers based on the social networking site.
According to Bollywood Twitter Index, a social media analytics report by To The New, Bachchan has grown his follower base by 87 per cent over last year, and is still going strong.
Amitabh Bachchan is followed by Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan in the tally for the highest number of followers. Priyanka Chopra is the only actress among the top five Indian movies celebs with the highest number of followers on the micro-blogging site. Founded in 2010, To The New is a digital services network that conceives, creates and manages digital platforms for content, communities and commerce.
Others in the top 10 tally include actors Deepika Padukone, Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar, Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor.
Madhuri Dixit-Nene saw a growth of nearly 151 per cent in the number of followers over last year. She, however, is yet to make it to the top 10. At the same time, Aamir Khan’s Twitter handle recorded very little activity, yet managed to gain 2 lakh followers in the last two months.
Besides Bachchan the other most active celebs on Twitter were Priyanka Chopra , SRK, Sonam Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit-Nene.
According to the study, nearly 27 per cent of the conversations by these celebs on Twitter were largely for promoting their film or work. About 24 per cent of the tweets by celebs were found to be about their personal experiences or fan interactions. Balance tweets were about brand promotion, opinions on specific issues, favourite quotes or social causes.
The Bollywood Twitter Index is a comparative study of the most active celebrities on Twitter, (based on number of followers and tweets per day) and analyses the Twitter content on the basis of their last 100 tweets during the period ending October 2013.
