The Central Electricity Authority has invited applications from consultancy firms for providing expertise in the field of renovation and modernisation to improve the efficiency of power plants.
“Expression of Interest (EoI) is invited from consultancy agencies for being empanelled in CEA for undertaking consultancy job in the field of renovation and modernisation of thermal power plants,” according to information on the CEA Web site.
The last date for the submission of EoI for consultants, to be appointed by various power utilities, is March 31.
CEA will provide consultancy in the preparation of detail project report for renovation and modernisation in respect of thermal power plants of various central and state power utilities.
India has 1,20,875 MW of coal-fired power generating capacity (57.3 per cent of total installed capacity) as on December 31, 2012 of which more than half is owned by state sector utilities.
Renovation and modernisation of existing plants is in many cases the least cost option for additional generation. It leads to improvement not only with regard to the physical conditions of the plant equipment but also with regard to efficiency and operational behaviour of the whole power plant.
It is estimated that about 30,000 MW of the capacity is in need of R&M, the data said.
