The CII Tamil Nadu State Council has requested the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa to consider forming a state-Level Tamil Nadu Manufacturing Competitiveness Council to provide further impetus to the initiatives of the Government in the manufacturing sector.
Tamil Nadu, with its rich ecosystem on manufacturing, supported by abundant skilled workforce, world-class research and development centres, is poised to emerge as a global leader in manufacturing. CII will work closely with the State Government in realising the objectives outlined in the Vision 2023 document released by the Chief Minister, says a CII press release.
R. Dinesh, Chairman, CII Tamil Nadu State Council, welcomed the announcement made by Jayalalithaa in the Assembly that the State Government would sign agreements worth Rs 20,925 crore, which has a potential to provide direct employment to over 36,000 people and an indirect employment to more than a lakh people in the State.
Dinesh said that this announcement was a landmark initiative, which would give a boost to the manufacturing sector in Tamil Nadu.
According to the Vision 2023 document, the contribution of the manufacturing sector to the State Gross Domestic Product was 16.5 per cent in 2010-11 and estimated to grow at 22 per cent by 2022-23. With this major announcement of investment projects, besides other policy initiatives of the State Government, Tamil Nadu is well placed to achieve an economic growth of over 11 per cent in the next 10 years with a substantial contribution from the manufacturing sector, said Dinesh in the release.
