The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms J. Jayalalithaa, has sought support from various national parties to back Mr P.A. Sangma as the next President.
Ms Jayalalithaaa spoke to leaders of non-Congress parties, including Mr L.K. Advani of Bharatiya Janata Party, to support the former Lok Sabha Speaker for the top post, says a press release issued by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam – the ruling party in the State.
She also spoke over telephone on the matter with Mr Prakash Karat, General Secretary, CPI (M); Mr A.B. Bardhan of CPI; Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu of Telugu Desam Party; Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav of Samajwadi Party and Punjab chief minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal of Shironmani Akali Dal.
