The Kolkata-based Camellia group is planning to set up a medical college in Burdwan, approximately 100 km from Kolkata. Apart from offering degrees in medical education, the proposed college will offer degrees in dental surgery and nursing education.
The company has recently acquired a small private hospital and expanded it to 300 beds. The new hospital will be opened next month.
Mr N.R. Datta, Chairman and Managing Director of the group, told newspersons here today that the capacity of the hospital will be expanded up to 500 beds. In addition, there will also be a dental hospital of 100 beds. The project will attract an initial investment of up to Rs. 250 crore.
The hospitals are a prerequisite of securing the necessary clearances for setting up medical colleges.
According to Mr Dutta, having received approvals of the West Bengal government and the West Bengal University of Health Sciences, the group has recently approached the Medical Council of India (MCI) for its approval.
Camellia Group is a player in the real estate and hospitality sectors in West Bengal and North-Eastern States. The group also offers pilot training in Kolkata in Cessna aircraft.
