Artists from the Jilin Provincial Troupe, from the north-eastern province of China, performed their traditional dance celebrating the Chinese Spring Festival at Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral home at Jorasanko in central Kolkata on Friday.

The cultural programme, Happy Spring Festival, has been jointly organised by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China and Indo-China Promotion Council to reinvigorate the Indo-Sino friendship. The Spring Festival is one of the important festivals celebrated during the Chinese New Year.

A 26-member team from Jilin Province performed at the Viswa Bharati University at Shantiniketan in Birbhum district on Thursday before heading to Kolkata. “We respect Tagore’s contributions towards enhancing cultural exchange between China and India, and we want to promote this for better understanding between the two nations,” said Zhang Lizhong, Chinese Consul General, in Kolkata.
