Coal block auctions for steel sector

The NDA Government plans to set up a separate auction of coal blocks for the steel industry expeditiously. According to a Steel Ministry note, the Ministry of Coal on Tuesday stated at a joint meeting that a “separate auction of coal blocks for the steel industry will be done expeditiously”. The alleged irregularities during the UPA regime over the auction of coal blocks had stalled several captive coal-mining projects for steel companies. The assurance came from Piyush Goyal, Minister of State for Power and Coal. Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Mines and Steel and Prakash Javadekar, Minister of State for Environment and Forests attended the meeting.
