The Designated Authority in the Ministry of Commerce has commenced anti-dumping investigation into the import of phosphoric acid of all grades and all concentrations (excluding agriculture/fertiliser grade) from Israel and Taiwan.

Phosphoric acid is an inorganic chemical used for the production of sodium phosphate, calcium phosphate, magnesium phosphate, ammonium phosphate and the subject goods is found applications in pharmaceuticals, beverages, seed processing, sugar juice clarification and sugar refining, food phosphate manufacturing.

According to the Authority, it has set off this probe in response to a written application filed by Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd (Baroda). The applicant is duly backed by Punjab Chemicals & Crop Protection Ltd and together they account for more than 50 per cent of the domestic production. As there is enough evidence of the ‘injury' being suffered by the domestic industry caused by the dumped imports from Israel and Taiwan, the Authority said it is justified in initiating the investigation.

The period of probe is from April 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010 and for purposes of injury investigation the period would cover the fiscal years from 2007-08, 2008-09 and the subsequent fifteen months, it said.
