FIR against child labour

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has filed an FIR against the owner of a stone-crushing unit in the remote Vijaynagar village in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan for employing child labour, according to a Women and Child Development Ministry release. During a two-day visit to Jodhpur and Jaisalmer districts by a team headed by Dr Yogesh Dube, Member, NCPCR, at least nine children in the age group of 3-10 years were found to be employed in the stone-crushing mine. According to the 2001 Census, there were 12.26 million working children in the age group of 5-14 years compared with 11.3 million in 1991.
