Integrated furniture maker Timbor Home Ltd on Thursday announced the setting up of a skill varsity to offer courses to those joining the Rs 70,000-crore Indian furniture industry.
The institute will offer four courses — namely, Kitchengineer, ProFit, Basic Woodwork and Wooden Furniture Making — from May this year, Mr Anant Maloo, Chairman and Managing Director of the company told reporters here. The company is listed on the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Students from any educational background, skilled carpenters without formal education and even dropouts will be enrolled in the courses that are of up to three months duration, with fees ranging from Rs 7,000 to Rs 30,000, he said. Earlier, Timbor Home conducted six pilot batches of students who were all absorbed in various jobs, half of them in the company itself which has 130 showrooms, including six large-format company-owned ones, across 80 cities in 20 States.
The Timbor Skillvarsity is also approaching various national and international bodies for professional certification and affiliation.
It has already received support from the Gujarat Government through the Industries Commissionerate and The Centre for Entrepreneurship Development.
He said the Indian furniture industry employs about three lakh people. The organised sector accounts for only 15 per cent of the total market and is growing at 30 per cent annually.
