Right of use (RoU) is not a permanent land acquisition. Compensation is paid at the rate of 10 per cent of land value, according to the P&MP Act.
The land value is decided by a competent authority (set up by State Governments) or as directed by the Government. Also, crop compensation, as per respective department valuation, is being paid.
The compensation for this project, based on the formula worked out by the State Revenue Department, to be paid to the farmers whose lands were being used for laying the network, is almost 6-7 times more than the value of land.
Regarding damage to the irrigation system, borewells, water pipelines across gas pipeline and drip irrigation system, GAIL has said that nothing will be destroyed in the process of laying the pipeline. But, in the unlikely event full compensation for restoration will be paid.
If very high compensation becomes a reality, the infrastructure industry fears that it will have direct impact on future projects as well.
