Global coffee exports decline by more than 10% in July

World coffee exports declined by more than 10 per cent to 7.35 million bags of 60 kg each in July this year, International Coffee Organisation said on Thursday.

The global export of the brew stood at 8.2 million bags in the year-ago period.

On a month-on-month basis global coffee shipments fell by 19 per cent to 7.35 million bags in July 2011 against 9.07 million bags in June 2011, ICO said.

However, in the first 10 months of the current coffee year (October 2010-September 2011), coffee exports rose by 14 per cent to 88.9 million bags compared to 77.9 million bags in the same period of the previous year.

According to the global body on coffee, India exported 4.68 lakh bags (about 28,080 tonnes) of coffee in July 2011, while, Coffee Board has projected July shipments at 28,116 tonnes.

For the year ending July 2011 global shipments of the brew increased by 13 per cent to 104.9 million bags compared to 92.5 million bags in the year-ago period.

"In the twelve months ending July 2011, exports of Arabica totalled 67.7 million bags compared to 60.0 million bags last year; whereas Robusta exports amounted to 37.2 million bags compared to 32.5 million bags," ICO said.
