The 13-member delegation of the Associacao dos Commites Olimpicos de Lingua official Portuguesa (ACOLOP) headed by President Mr Vong Lao Lek yesterday inspected various venues across Goa and said though the union territory has the basic facilities to hold the Games there is a need to upgrade the existing infrastructure.
Talking to the reporters, ACOLOP President said he was impressed with the first visit and hoped that everything will be done as per the accepted guidelines.
“We trust Sports Authority of Goa and are expecting that various venues will be ready in time for the 2013 Games ,” Mr Lek said. Delegates, after inspecting various facilities, short—listed proposed venues for the event but stressed that the facilities had to be finally approved by the international federation.
Lusofonia Games involve athletes coming from Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) countries, namely those belonging to the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), but also others where there are significant Portuguese communities or that have a common past with Portugal. Apart from hosts India the event will witness the participation from Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Guinea-Bissau, Macau (China), Mozambique, Portugal and STome and Principe.
