Hindusthan National Glass & Industries Ltd (HNG) today announced the commencement of construction of Phase-I of its glass manufacturing complex at Naidupeta in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. The project entails an investment outlay of about Rs 700 crore.
Spread across a 210-acre site, the green field complex will have a single large furnace with a capacity of 650 mt per day and a large container glass end-port fired furnace of 175 sq mt. On completion, the facility will house three container glass and two float glass plants having a capacity of 3,500 mt per day.
The project is located strategically and will play a role in the company's business plans to consolidate its presence in South India. The company sees the liquor industry as a major client in the South for its glass products.
Mr C.K. Somany, Chairman, HNG, in a statement said about 65 per cent of the demand for glass comes from the Southern and Western regions of the country. The new plant is expected to address this demand with high-quality products. Its location in the close vicinity of major ports will help the company serve some of the overseas demand.
The furnace for container glass has been designed by German companies Zippe and Horne. Emhart Glass would supply the latest glass bottle forming machines.
In a statement, the company said the complex will generate employment for over 2,000 people. It plans to construct a housing colony to accommodate over 500 families in the campus. It is proposed to set up a 1.5-MW waste heat-powered power plant for captive consumption.
