Jet Airways, Air India and a host of global airlines, including Emirates, the Air France-KLM combine and British Airways, cancelled Monday’s flights to the US east coast because of inclement weather conditions caused by Hurricane Sandy.
Jet Airways said flights on the Brussels and Newark sector on October 30 and October 31 could either be “rescheduled or cancelled,” depending on the situation in the US.
Passengers will be allowed to make a change in date or time on an alternative flight, Jet said.
The airline, however, clarified that only the first change in date or time would be allowed free of charge.
Air India pushed back the departure of Tuesday’s flight from Mumbai to Newark and Delhi to New York by about 12 hours to 1 p.m.
“The flights are expected to be operated only after receiving clearance for flight operation from the US Government and availability of airport services,” the airline said in a statement.
Dubai-based Emirates said flights to and from New York were also cancelled for Tuesday.
On Monday, the Air France-KLM combine cancelled all flights to and from Washington Dulles, New York Kennedy and Boston Logan airports. The airline has offered passengers having a ticket for travel to and from the three destinations till October 31, the option of changing their travel plans free of charge till November 4.
British Airways, which cancelled all its Monday flights to the East Coast, including those going to New York, Baltimore, Washington, Boston and Philadelphia, has offered passengers whose flights have been cancelled the option to “rebook or receive a refund”.
