The Indian Ambassador to the US, Ms Meera Shankar, hosted a delegation of lawmakers from Texas during which they discussed a wide range of issues.
The discussions included exploring the possibilities of increased relationship between India and the state of Texas, trade relations in particular.
The nine Texas Congressmen who met Ms Shankar were Mr Pete Sessions, Mr Mike Conaway, Mr Sylvester Reyes, Ms Sheila Jackson Lee, Mr Ted Poe, Mr Pete Olson, Mr Bill Flores, Mr Blake Farenthold and Mr Francisco (Quico) Canseco, said eminent Indian American from Texas, Mr Ashok Mago, who had taken the initiative for the meeting.
He said the discussions were very fruitful.
Texas is a state which is number one in exports and number two in agriculture. It has the largest number of Fortune 500 companies, Mr Mago said, adding that its GDP is $1.4 trillion.
“Business and political leaders in India should look into the opportunities Texas has to offer. There is more to USA than Washington, New York and Los Angles.
“Dallas Fort Worth airport is the only airport in the world to accommodate a combination of seven simultaneous landings and takeoffs and ranks 8th in the world for passengers,” Mr Mago added.
