The three-day annual meet of the Indian Economic Association (IEA) begins on December 27 in Gitam University, according to Vice-Chancellor G. Subrahmanyam.
He told reporters here on Tuesday that the focal theme of the 95the IEA annual meet would be “growth and structural changes in employment”.
The sub-themes are: economic growth and employment linkages, employment pattern (structural, regional and social groups), drivers of changing pattern of employment and the impact of human resource development on employment.
Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry D. Purandeswari will inaugurate the conference and Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh will deliver the valedictory address.
He said Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, may participate in the meet. Eminent economists Vijay Kelkar, C. Rangarajan and Ch. Hanumantha Rao will give lectures in the conference.
He said many papers would be presented on the trend and patterns of employment after liberalisation of the Indian economy and the quality of employment would also be a serious issue for discussion and debate.
