Industrial workers have planned to go on a two-day nationwide strike from February 20 to press for their various demands.
Workers from different sectors in various industrial units will participate in the two-day stir, All India General Secretary of the Steel Metal and Engineering Workers’ Federation of India (SMEFI) Sanjay Wadhavkar said here today.
While the demands of different working unions vary as per the sector, the main demand of all the unions is that the minimum wages for a worker should be Rs 10,000 (a month), Wadhavkar said.
The charter of demands relates to social security measures for the workers, opposition to privatisation of the PSUs, removing the ceiling on bonus, contract labour, issues relating to workers in unorganised sectors, he said.
Wadhavkar is also the member of the executive committee of the international trade union body called Industryall Global Union.
The workers have been pressing for various demands since long but nothing much has been done in this regard, he pointed out.
Besides the strike, a two-day national meet of all the trade union representatives will be held in Thane on February 23 and 24 in which various issues of workers and trade unions will be deliberated and further decisions will be taken.
