The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is set to attach immovable property worth Rs 230 crore of five companies in connection with the Rs 200-crore bribe allegedly paid to Kalaignar TV. The firms are Dynamix Realty, DB Realty, Eversmile Constructions, Nihar Constructions and Conwood Constructions.
A source told Business Line: “Adjudicating authorities have confirmed the attachment order. The ED will now take possession of these properties.” The ED’s order had been challenged under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The agency had made the CBI chargesheet the basis for its order.
“As per the CBI chargesheets, a bribe of Rs 200 crore was given by Swan Telecom Pvt. Ltd. (now Etisalat DB Telecom Pvt. Ltd.) to Kalaignar TV through intermediary companies as loans or share application money. However, the same was returned to Dynamix Realty (a company of Shahid Usman Balwa and Vinod Goenka),” the ED had said in its order.
