The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, may be moving in a convoy of high-end BMWs, but as an individual he owns only a 1996 Maruti 800. The Prime Minister and his 72 Cabinet colleagues declared their assets on Saturday.
According to the details released on the official Web site of the Prime Minister Office, Dr Singh owns two properties, including a two-storey house in Chandigarh with a current market value of Rs 90 lakh and a residential apartment in Delhi valued at Rs 88.67 lakh. The Prime Minister and his wife do not have any investment in bonds, debentures or shares.
The Union Urban Development Minister, Mr Kamal Nath, is the richest among all his Cabinet colleagues with total family assets of Rs 276.64 crore.
No Property
Among the Cabinet Ministers who do not own any property are the Corporate Affairs Minister, Mr Veerappa Moily, and the Defence Minister Mr A.K. Antony. However, Mr Antony's wife owns a house and some land in Kerala.
The Chemical and Fertiliser Minister, Mr M.K. Alagiri, has two houses and a flat in Madurai apart from one in Chennai. Similarly, his wife has a flat in Chennai. They also own commercial buildings and agricultural and non-agricultural land in Tamil Nadu.
The Home Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, has listed a cycle worth Rs 1,239 and a cordless phone worth Rs 5,000 among the list of assets that he has publically declared. As an individual in the Hindu Undivided Family (HUF), Mr Chidambaram has declared that his liability is Rs 69.98 lakh.
The Maratha strongman Mr Sharad Pawar and his wife own immovable assets over Rs 6.7 crore, including Rs 1.65 crore in their HUF. Mr Praful Patel's residence in Mumbai, better known as Ceejay House, is worth Over Rs 33 crore.
