Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir said on Saturday thatStates were taking measures to set up fast-track courts for speedy disposal of cases relating to violence against women. One such fast track court has been set up in Saket in South Delhi following the December 16 gang rape in the Capital.

“The fast track court took up the matter, which is now known as the Nirbhaya case. Nearly 70 witnesses have been examined and the trial is on the verge of completion,” Kabir told newspersons on the sidelines of the inaugural function of the Circuit Bench of the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity here.

The administration has an important role in ensuring quick and fair investigations into instances of violence. “Investigation is in the hands of the administration, and courts have nothing much to do in this regard. The administration should ensure that investigation can happen in a quick and fair manner,” he said.
