Nitte University, Mangalore, and the Karkala-based Gajria Family Foundation have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a 40-bed hospital at Karkala in Udupi district.
An university release said here that this will be the first hospital in Karkala to have a regular dialysis centre. Advanced treatment will be available at the Nitte University's K.S. Hegde Hospital in Mangalore.
The hospital will be built on a five-acre land, donated by Sri Venkataramana Temple Trust, Karkala.
The Gajria Family Foundation will provide Rs 6 crore to meet the cost of building and infrastructure.
The Nitte University will run the hospital, provide additional equipment, required doctors and other staff and will also provide funds for day-to-day management. The hospital will be completed by April 2013, the release said.
Mr Lalchand Gajria is the octogenarian founder of the Gajria Family Foundation, it said.
Nitte University is a deemed university established by Nitte Education Trust.
