The Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, will embark on a four-day official visit to the US this Wednesday.
During his visit, Mr Mukherjee will attend the Spring meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He will also attend the G-20 Finance Ministers’ and BRICS Finance Ministers’ meeting.
Most of his official engagements during the four-day visit will be in Washington, a Finance Ministry official said.
Mr Mukherjee will attend the ministerial meeting of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to be chaired by the Italian Prime Minister. This is the first time that a ministerial-level meeting of FATF is being attended by an Indian Finance Minister. India had become the 34th member of FATF last year.
During his visit, the Finance Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the US, South Korea, Iran and the UK on the sidelines of the World Bank and IMF meetings.
He will also chair a G-24 Finance Ministers’ meeting as he is currently heading the G24 Finance Ministers’ forum.
