The first-of its kind renewable energy-based smart mini grid (SMG) system in India has finally seen the light of the day at Teri Retreat in Gual Pahari, Gurgoan.
Developed by TERI (The Energy & Resources Institute) with support from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and local implementation partners, the SMG is an intelligent electricity distribution networkoperating at or below 11 kV, a TERI release said.
With digital and control techniques, electricity is supplied by a range of distributed energy resources such as solar photovoltaic system, wind electric generator, biomass gassifier system, battery storage system and diesel generator (which is given the lowest priority). At TERI's Gual Pahari retreat, the SMG claims to intelligently manage and balance multiple loads through inter-connected energy resources, providing rapid responses to network disturbances, minimising outages and preventing black-outs. The project was commissioned by Dr Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy in the presence of Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde, Union Minister for Power and Dr R.K Pachauri, Director-General, TERI.
