Consumers in metropolitan cities will now be able to buy 5-kg cooking gas cylinders from petrol bunks and shift their LPG cooking gas connections to dealers of their choice.
Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Panabaka Lakshmi launched the gas cylinder sale and cooking gas connection portability scheme in Chennai on Saturday.
The 5-kg cylinders being sold at market prices will particularly help young families and working couples . The initial cost of the cylinder, regulator and accessories works out to about Rs 2,133 but the refills are available for Rs 504. The cylinders will initially be available at select petrol bunks in metros.
Portability
Cooking gas connection portability has also been simplified to enable customers linked to one dealer or a gas company to shift to another dealer or company within the same area. The consumers’ request for change can be registered online and tracked by the company to ensure compliance. In addition to customer convenience, this will help improve service delivery, she said.
