The Industrial Automation Division of global major Siemens is upbeat about business prospects in the country, especially in the field of technology and solutions in sectors such as food and beverage, dairy and pharmaceuticals.

As Indian companies go global, they have to conform to local regulations such as that of the Food and Drug Administration. Such companies are seeking to adapt new technologies that help address these challenges. Issues such as traceability, that is being able to identify the source of the products that have gone into production, are also important drivers for this.

Mr Axel Lorenz, Vice-President of Industrial Automation Systems, Siemens, said, “We follow our global customers as they set up plants and expand their business in new markets. As Indian companies expand, setting up new plants, upgrading existing plants, all these make India an attractive destination to offer automation solutions.”

Speaking to

Business Line , Mr Lorenz said the Indian drugs and pharmaceutical sector is quite big and poised to emerge among the top two markets over the next decade.

Apart from domestic consumption, as Indian drug firms offer their products, they would have to take to automation solutions that streamline manufacturing and help enhance business, he said.

Mr Bhaskar Mandal, Vice-President, Industry Automation Siemens, said localisation and support are the crucial actors that have helped the company grow at a pace faster than the industry growth. This would not have been possible without having 20 manufacturing plants in India and over 19,000 employees and implementation partners.
