The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms J. Jayalalithaa said the State will sign several memoranda of understanding with vehicle and auto part makers.

At the inauguration of the Daimler India Commercial Vehicle's truck plant at the auto hub of Oragadam, near Chennai, the Chief Minister said the Government will soon announce industry-specific policies for automobiles, auto components, biotechnology, aerospace and renewable energy with focus on solar power.

“Over the next 11 years, Tamil Nadu will aim to make its GSDP grow at 11 per cent or more per annum - about 20 per cent more than the expected growth rate of India's GDP over the same period.”

Ms Jayalalithaa said the Government's new industrial policy 2012 will accelerate the pace of growth of the manufacturing sector to 14 per cent.

On infrastructural challenges, Ms Jayalalithaa said the Government will lay 2,000 km of six- and eight-lane expressways and 5,000 km of four-lane highways. The State will provide additional 20,000 MW of power capacity before 2023.

The State is also a finalising a set of policy reforms, she said.
