The Central transmission utility PowerGrid Corporation has hooked up Tata Power’s 4,000—MW ultra—mega power project (UMPP) at Mundra to the national grid and the first unit of the Rs 20,000 crore plant is likely to commence electricity supply within the next four months.
“The 4,000—MW Mundra project is progressing as per schedule, with engineering, procurement and construction activities in full swing. The transmission evacuation system from PGCIL got commissioned on September 29, 2011, and the transmission capacity is currently under testing by PGCIL,” Tata Power said in an e—mailed statement.
The Tata Group firm said as per the terms of the UMPP contracts, seven months’ time is provided for stabilisation of electricity supply from a unit to the grid. However, the company aims to commence evacuation of power from the project within the next four months.
“Contractually, it requires seven months post—availability of transmission lines to stabilise a unit. We aim to stabilise Unit—1 of the Mundra UMPP in four months,” the statement added.
PGCIL confirmed that it had established the transmission network for the Mundra network and that it is ready for evacuation of power.
“From our side, the transmission network is ready and evacuation of power can start now,” a PGCIL official said.
