Thousands of Government employees have agreed to call off the 15-day non-cooperation movement in the 10 districts of the Telangana region.
The representatives of the Telangana employees' joint action committee told reporters late in the evening that the Government has agreed to their key demands that included reservation in jobs to the locals and appointment of locals in all the outsourcing projects offered by the State Government. The employees were demanding the creation of separate State for the region to address their other concerns.
The stand-off came to an end on Friday evening, with the success of talks between the Cabinet Sub-Committee and the JAC leaders. The non-cooperation movement virtually stalled all Government activity in the region. While work in all the departments came to stand still, lakhs of employees, including the Chief Minister, Mr N.Kiran Kumar Reddy, failed to get salaries for February, 2011.
The strike, if continued, would have hit the upcoming SSC and Intermediate examination schedule.
